1 tablespoon black treacle
1 tablespoon golden syrup
1 teaspoon orange juice
240g self-raising flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger

glacé icing for decoration
PREPARATION
Set oven to 350ºF. Grease and flour baking sheets.
Cream together in a bowl butter, sugar, treacle, syrup and orange juice.
Stir in dry ingredients. Knead well to form the pastry.
Roll out pastry on a lightly floured surface.
Cut out the gingerbread men using a shaped cutter (which you can buy at cookware shops). Place on the baking sheets leaving some space between them and bake for 10-15 minutes.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before removing from the sheets. Decorate with white and coloured glacé icing (eyes, nose, mouth, buttons).
